The Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV is available in India for a starting price of ₹7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The costs are introductory and will be raised in November 2024. Prices for the top-spec models will be announced at the end of August or early September. Bookings for the Basalt Coupe SUV have started at ₹ 11,001. The Basalt, built on the same platform as the C3 Aircross, is the company’s first coupe SUV and one of just two in the mass market class. The other is its rival, the Tata Curvv, which will be available in petrol and diesel options soon.
Engine Options in Citroen Basalt
The Basalt will be available with two engine options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol. Both of these engines have been extensively tested in the C3 and C3 Aircross. The naturally aspirated engine generates 82 horsepower and 115 Newton-meters. It is paired with a 5-speed manual and has a claimed efficiency of 18.5 km/l. The 1.2 turbo-petrol engine produces 110 horsepower at its max. The torque peak is 190 Nm for the 6-speed manual and 205 Nm for the 6-speed automatic transmission variants. Furthermore, the manual variation is expected to achieve 19.5 kmpl, while the automated trims will return 18.7 kmpl.
Citroen Basalt: Design.
The Basalt features a revolutionary Coupe SUV design with strong, innovative styling and clean lines. The front end is similar to the C3 Aircross, with a few minor differences. The sloping roofline, seen from the side, adds to the elegance and flair, as do the 16-inch alloy wheels with a busy pattern. The dimensions are 4,352 mm long, 1,765 mm wide, and 1,593 mm long. The wheelbase is 2,651 mm, with a cargo size of 470 litres.
Citroen Basalt Interior & Features
The Basalt’s dashboard is comparable to that of other C3 variants. Citroen has, however, made a few tweaks. It now has automatic climate control with a compact cluster of controls. The center console has been updated to include a new front center armrest, as well as two USB ports and AC vents for the rear occupants. They will also get roof-mounted air conditioner vents. Even on the highest-spec variants, the Basalt lacks a sunroof, most likely in order to keep prices low.
The SUV has comfy back headrests and seats with adjustable under-thigh support, which is a first for the segment. It has a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch LCD instrument cluster, keyless entry, connected car technology, a rear parking camera, 6 airbags, and more.
The Citroen Basalt competes with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and other models.
